Job summary

A. O. Smith Corporation is seeking a Product Engineer to lead advanced engineering tasks in a manufacturing setting. You will mentor the design team and drive development from concept through production, ensuring design for manufacturability and robust performance.

Responsibilities include managing CAD models in SolidWorks, supporting lifecycle management, and collaborating across Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to reduce costs and improve reliability. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
• Minimum of 3 years in product or design engineering in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with sustaining engineering and product lifecycle management strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of plastic part design and understanding of plastic injection molding processes.
• Familiarity with quality tools (FMEA, root cause analysis, Six Sigma).

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development activities for new products from concept to production.
• Provide design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) input; assist in transitioning products to production.
• Provide engineering support for existing products to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
• Investigate and resolve field issues, customer complaints, and internal quality concerns.
• Identify and implement design improvements to reduce costs and improve manufacturability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain on improvement projects.
• Create, modify, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks; manage BOMs in PLM/PDM.
