Job summary

A.O. Smith in Lebanon, TN is seeking a design-focused Engineer to act as the key contact for resolving product issues and driving BOM changes.

The role includes leading design changes, product enhancements, and cost reduction activities, with duties spanning testing, data collection, and analysis to ensure design requirements are met. The position requires a BS in a related field with engineering experience, proficiency in CAE tools, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field plus three months of related work experience (refrigeration/heat pump/HVAC experience a plus) preferred.
• Demonstrate some expertise in an adjacent or related field.
• Experience with CAE tools such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD or FEA.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced engineering tasks under supervision by a senior engineer.
• Become familiar with industry groups and patent/trade secret processes.
• Complete engineering assignments requiring broad knowledge in an engineering specialty.
• Analyze production methods to meet time and cost goals.
• Support engineering functions for a product or product family from design through production.
• Develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and advise on issues within engineering.
• Enter and modify product data in ERP system and initiate/Review/approve Engineering Changes.
• Provide occasional support to manufacturing and acquire familiarity with manufacturing operations.
• Communicate with other engineering functions including product, process, production, quality, and reliability teams.
