Job summary

Highlander Consultants in Jacksonville, FL, is seeking an experienced engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Department. You will work on custom programming logic, application configurations, and gain deep product expertise, becoming our primary applications/technical support resource.

The role blends deep technical immersion with outward-facing market work, translating customer needs into new product opportunities and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams on the floor.

Qualifications

• Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, or related); degree preferred, but verifiable experience will be considered.
• Prior hydraulics, electrical systems, or industrial applications engineering experience.
• Track record translating ambiguous customer needs into concrete specs.
• Comfortable moving between customers and skilled tradespeople, often on the manufacturing floor.
• PLC/control systems experience is a strong plus.

We build hydraulic power units for customers and we are expanding our team.

The Opportunity

You'll work on custom programming logic, application configurations, and get deep product expertise in our Electrical Engineering Department. You'll absorb that knowledge through structured, hands‑on transfer, document it, and become our primary applications/technical support resource. At the same time, you'll translate customer needs into new product opportunities and act as a technically credible partner in new market development. There are 2 major parts of the role — deep technical immersion and outward‑facing market work, often in the same week. The right person finds both energizing. You'll also build relationships with the engineering team and with the assembly leads, especially electromechanical and panel shop.

Skills needed

• Hydraulics/electrical/applications engineering depth — 5-10 years of experience
• Documentation discipline (knowledge not captured is knowledge lost)
• Patience and EQ with a skeptical, tenured team
• Strong customer-facing technical communication
• Product ownership — comfortable taking notes, walking the floor, or presenting to our customers
• Directness: willing to tell leadership when something won't work

Qualifications

• Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, or related). Degree preferred, but equivalent verifiable experience will be seriously considered. Someone coming from an electrical background (BSEE + experience) who has learned Mechanical and Hydraulic systems over time would be ideal.
