Product Engineer

Since 1892, OPW has been at the forefront of fluid‑handling operations worldwide. As a global leader, OPW develops innovative solutions for loading and unloading systems, railcar and transport tank‑truck valves, gauging devices, tank‑monitoring systems, automated storage‑terminal controls, regulators, fittings, vaporizers, vacuum‑jacketed piping, gas‑handling systems, touch‑free and soft‑touch vehicle wash systems, and entry systems.

The Product Engineer is responsible for front‑end product design for a diverse line of fluid transfer products manufactured at the Hamilton, Ohio facility. The role collaborates with engineers and product management to develop new products or significantly modify existing products from initial design through prototyping, testing, and production.

Responsibilities
  • Use CAD to create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and 2D drawings based on voice of customer input.
  • Help manage project plans, be accountable for project deadlines and product cost targets, and lead cross‑functional teams through the stage‑gate process.
  • Build, test, and refine prototypes to ensure safety, functionality, durability, reliability, and regulatory objectives are met.
  • Work closely with operations to develop and optimize manufacturing processes using DFMA principles.
  • Manage the engineering change process and document new designs or significant improvements, creating or updating technical documentation such as bills of material, drawings, FMEA, and supporting information.
  • Interface with sustaining engineering and operations teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) to provide advanced technical support for products manufactured at the Hamilton facility.
  • Provide engineering support to customer service and sales teams to answer escalated technical inquiries.
  • Other activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • 3–5+ years of experience in design or application engineering, manufacturing support, or product engineering.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and clear communication of technical information.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo and Windchill preferred).
  • Knowledge of product development processes and tools (stage‑gate, FMEA, DFMA, etc.).
  • Experience with engineering change process and ERP systems (creating/updating item masters and bills of material).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to travel up to 10 %.
  • Position based in the Knappco facility in Hamilton, OH.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility with fluid handling equipment, including valves, connectors, and swivels.
  • Strong data‑driven problem‑solving background, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Familiar with designing components made from aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel, and with manufacturing processes such as castings, forgings, machining, and welding. Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ASME B31.3 is a plus.
  • Experience with basic FEA and CFD simulations.
  • High level of customer focus and positive attitude.
  • Professional demeanor at all times with customers and coworkers, observing Dover’s Code of Ethical Conduct and Personal Conduct policies.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Self‑directed, positive, and ethical role model who can work with minimal supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts on the shop floor.

Physical Demands

Employees must sit, stand, walk, talk, write, lift, and work with hands in both office and shop floor environments.

Bonus Eligibility

This position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
