Job summary

Dover Corporation's OPW division in Hamilton, OH is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support custom fluid transfer systems, providing advanced CAD designs, layouts, and 3D models to meet customer specs and engineering standards.

This role bridges sales and production by delivering safe, manufacturable designs, quotes, and BOMs while collaborating with sales, engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure efficient quoting-to-purchase processes.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of professional engineering or technical quoting experience.
  • 2 years of experience using 3D CAD programs (Creo/ProE preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Custom Equipment Quoting: Utilize technical knowledge and field-provided data to quote custom pipe and swivel equipment (loading arms) and complex terminal layouts.
  • KPI-Driven Turnaround: Meet or exceed departmental KPIs for quote accuracy, technical verification, and speed of quote turnaround times to maximize sales conversion.
  • Cost & Accuracy Optimization: Ensure all custom loading arm configurations and engineering quotes are both highly accurate and highly economical for the customer and production. Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support the manufacturing department to ensure quoted solutions transfer seamlessly to the production floor.
  • Sales Collaboration: Act as the primary technical partner to internal sales teams, translating regional sales notes and field requirements into clean, viable commercial options.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Coordinate and communicate with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and other internal departments to streamline the quoting-to-purchase order pipeline.

As a global leader in fluid-handling solutions, the mission of OPW is to be a developer of a comprehensive array of innovative fluid-handling solutions that our customers can consistently and reliably count on. These include loading and unloading systems for high-value hazardous and non-hazardous bulk products; railcar and transport tank-truck valves, gauging devices and tank-monitoring systems; automated storage-terminal controls and systems; and regulators, fittings, valves, vaporizers, vacuum-jacketed piping and gas-handling systems for the safe handling and distribution of cryogenics and industrial gases. OPW also creates and manufactures touch-free and soft-touch vehicle wash systems, entry systems and wash chemicals.

The Applications Engineer- Custom Equipment and Quoting applies technical expertise to evaluate field-developed specifications and generate competitive, prepare accurate quotes for custom fluid transfer systems, and evaluate information and variables provided directly from the field to design safe, workable, and highly manufacturable fluid transfer solutions. This role will also provide advanced CAD designs, system layouts, and 3D models to customer specifications and applicable engineering standards, and will work to bridge the gap between sales and production by creating safe, workable, and manufacturable designs.

Qualifications
  • 2 years of professional engineering or technical quoting experience
  • Software Proficiency: 2 years of experience using 3D CAD programs, (Creo/ProE preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Equipment Expertise: Experience with custom piping design, pressure vessels, swivels, , or custom equipment layouts.
  • Quoting Software: Experience using product configuration, Excel, and quoting software alongside a working knowledge of Oracle ERP.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to solve practical field problems and deal with a variety of variables in custom, non-standardized engineering situations.
  • Codes & Standards: Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and Boiler Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Professional Attributes: Strong math skills, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), high level of customer focus, and a positive attitude.
  • Autonomy: Self-directed, positive, and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Compliance: Fully observe Dover’s code of ethical conduct, employee handbook "personal conduct of employees" policies, and ISO quality system standards.

Bonus Eligible: This position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
