Job summary

OPW is seeking a Sustaining Engineer at the Hamilton, OH facility to support a diverse line of fluid transfer products. You will lead root cause analyses, implement product improvements, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams.

The role requires a BS Mechanical Engineering, 3–5+ years in sustaining or manufacturing support, proficiency with Creo/Windchill, ERP systems, and travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • 3–5+ years in sustaining engineering, manufacturing support, or product engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead root cause analysis investigations and drive product improvements in a team environment.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo and Windchill preferred).
  • Experience with engineering change process and ERP systems (creating and updating item masters and bills of material).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Position is based in the Knappco facility in Hamilton, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor regulatory change process for impacts to rail products manufactured in Hamilton and lead or support efforts to incorporate changes into production processes, documentation, and electronic systems.
  • Perform forensic examination of rail products to understand root causes of performance issues requested by customers or regulatory authorities; propose corrective actions and oversee implementation, including travel as needed.
  • Support quality during audits to ensure compliance with AAR certification requirements.
  • Interface with design engineering and operations teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) to provide frontline technical support of products manufactured in Hamilton.
  • Implement product enhancements and productivity improvement initiatives identified by leadership.
  • Manage engineering change processes, document improvements, and update technical documentation (BoM, drawings, etc.).
  • Assist design engineering with transferring new products from development to manufacturing floor.
  • Provide engineering support to customer service and sales teams on escalated technical inquiries.
  • Other activities as needed.

The Sustaining Engineer provides frontline engineering support for a diverse line of fluid transfer products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility. The role collaborates with multiple engineering teams and onsite operations teams to solve manufacturing and quality issues, implement enhancements, drive productivity savings, and support new product development initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility with exposure to fluid handling equipment (valves, connectors, swivels).
  • Strong data‑driven problem‑solving background with capability to conduct analyses, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and verify closure in manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AAR standards.
  • High level of customer focus and positive attitude, maintaining professional demeanor.
  • Self‑directed, positive and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Work Environment

Employee will wear appropriate personal protective equipment and may work near moving mechanical parts on the shop floor.

Physical Demands

Requires sitting, standing, walking, talking, writing, lifting, and using hands in both office and shop floor environments.
