Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Product Owner - Executive Director for the Controls Room to own strategy and delivery of the STEP application. You will enable 1LOD testing and 2LOD oversight, driving AI-enabled, agentic workflows with strong controls and human oversight.

You will lead discovery, shape a prioritized roadmap, and deliver iteratively with small teams, coaching the product group and aligning stakeholders across engineering, design, and compliance to lift efficiency and transparency.

Job description

The Controls Room team within Control Management works collaboratively with other control disciplines and oversees existing control functions as well as the development of new control functions and protocols. The team's objective is to empower the three lines of defense with risk-based information to manage the control environment. We achieve this by collecting, analyzing, and monitoring firmwide risk-based intelligence across lines of business and corporate functions.

As a Product Owner - Executive Director in the Controls Room, you will own the product strategy and delivery of the STEP application, used by First Line of Defense (1LOD) Control Testers and enabling Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Compliance oversight. You will be accountable for delivering measurable improvements in how test plans are designed, monitored, and executed - leveraging AI and agentic workflows to increase efficiency, consistency, and transparency while maintaining appropriate controls and human oversight.

Job responsibilities

• Define and drive product strategy for STEP and associated Controls Room capabilities, aligning product vision to 1LOD testing needs and 2LOD Compliance oversight objectives.
• Lead customer discovery (research, workflow analysis, pain-point identification) to translate user needs into a prioritized roadmap and clear value proposition.
• Lead AI enablement within the product, identifying high-impact use cases (e.g., NLP-driven insights, automation, decision support), shaping an AI integration strategy, and guiding responsible deployment with appropriate controls and monitoring.
• Deliver iteratively using agile practices and small, empowered teams (e.g., Pizza POD), accelerating time-to-value through rapid prototyping, and continuous feedback loops.
• Coaches and mentors the STEP Product team on best practices, such as solution generation, market research, prototyping methods, product adoption strategies, and product delivery, enabling them to effectively deliver on objectives.
• Partners across line of defense to identify, validate, and scale reusable testing solutions and components, driving efficiency and scale.
• Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria are well-defined, testable, and aligned to outcomes (and evolving approach as the firm evolves the software development lifecycle).
• Establish and track success metrics (e.g., tester productivity, cycle time, coverage, control outcomes, reliability, risk posture, and cost) and use data to guide prioritization and investment decisions.
• Act as the voice of the customer, partnering with stakeholders to evolve operational policies, process flows, procedures, tooling, and user communications where required to enable adoption.
• Evaluate "build vs. partner vs. defer" decisions for emerging AI/ agentic capabilities and balancing speed, scalability, and risk.
• Support go-to-market and change management including launch planning, training/ readiness, documentation, and post-launch support to drive adoption and measurable business impact.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Demonstrated experience owning and delivering a product(s) across the full product lifecycle (discovery, delivery, adoption, optimization), with accountability for outcomes and performance.
• Hands-on experience delivering AI-enabled capabilities in production (e.g., NLP, intelligent automation, decision support), including model/ product iteration, monitoring, and stakeholder readiness.
• Experience incorporating agentic patterns/ workflows into products (e.g., orchestration, tool-use, human-in-the-loop review) with an emphasis on control, transparency, and auditability.
• Proven ability to deliver in an iterative, fast-paced model using short development cycles and small teams (e.g., Pizza POD), partnering tightly with design and engineering.
• Strong stakeholder management across Engineering, UI/UX Design, Data, Control Testing Center of Excellence (TCOE), Compliance, and senior leadership-aligning outcomes, negotiating trade-offs, and driving timely decisions.
• Proven track record leading large, complex initiatives impacting multiple stakeholders, with strong written/oral communication at a senior executive level.
• Understanding of risk and controls concepts, in risk management, assessment, control evaluations or testing,
• 10 years of experience delivering products, projects, or technology applications at scale.
• Strong knowledge of the product development lifecycle, technical design concepts, and data/ analytics fundamentals; ability to translate complex needs into clear requirements.
• Experience driving organizational change and enabling adoption through communications, training, and operating model/process updates.
