Job summary

LifeStraw is seeking a Product Development Engineer in Baltimore, MD to own the technical design and execution of new water filtration products from concept to mass production. This hands-on role emphasizes CAD, DFM, BOM management, and supplier-facing problem solving, reporting to engineering leadership.

You’ll collaborate with our Hanoi lab partner on validation plans and testing, while traveling domestically and internationally with suppliers during tooling, pilot production, and line trials.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s a plus.
• 3–5+ years of hands-on product design/development experience from concept through mass production.
• Strong CAD proficiency (Creo, Catia, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360).
• Experience with Windchill for BOM management, change control, and PDM workflows is a nice plus.
• Strong experience with plastic part design and injection molding.

Responsibilities

• Take product concepts from working-principle definition through CAD modeling and prototyping to production release.
• Own technical design decisions: FEA, material selection, tolerance stack-up, seal calculations, and thread analysis.
• Lead DFM/DFA/DFC reviews and translate findings into manufacturable design changes.
• Create and maintain BOMs, CAD releases, and change control in Windchill.
• Build and release tooling and production tech packs for suppliers.
• Collaborate with product manager and lab partner across time zones to align priorities and status.
• Travel to factories/suppliers up to 20–30% during key phases (tooling, pilot production, line trials).
