Job summary

Linde plc, a global leader in industrial gases, seeks an experienced engineer to design and build R&D systems for ESGs at the Tonawanda, NY center. You will support new specialty gas commercialization and optimize existing lab systems in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with significant post-degree ESG experience, hands-on lab work, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of post-B.S. or 3+ years post-M.S. in ESG product development.
• Hands-on lab-scale work with high-purity, hazardous ESGs.
• Proven design and fabrication experience for gas panels and their control systems under vacuum and high pressure.

Responsibilities

• Design and build R&D systems for ESGs and advanced materials.
• Support commercialization of new specialty gases for the Electronics business.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance of R&D systems and processes; develop measurement and control protocols.
• Develop into an internal expert for synthesis, purification, analysis, and testing of ESGs.
• Collaborate on internal projects to identify new products or process development opportunities.

What you will enjoy doing*

• In thisposition you will be a key member of the Electronics Gases research anddevelopment team at the Linde Technology Center (LTC) in Tonawanda, NY, and youwill design and build R&D systems for development of new materials,purification technologies, delivery systems, and packaging solutions for theiruse in the Electronics specialty gases (ESGs) and advanced materials market
• In the area of New Product Development you will work with project technical leads to execute tasks supporting the commercialization of new specialty gases for the Linde Electronics business
• In the field of efficiency optimization you will identify opportunities to improve the performance of existing R&D systems and processes; develop and implement protocols to measure, analyze, enhance, and control system performance
• You will develop into an internal expert in the design and fabrication of research systems for synthesis, purification, analysis, and application testing of ESGs
• Activelyparticipate in internal technical collaborations to identify opportunitiesfor new products and / or process development programs

What makes you great

• You have a B.S or M. S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering plus more than five (5+) years of post-B.S. or more than three (3+) years of post-M.S industrial experience in specialty gases product development
• Hands‑on experience with lab‑scale work involving high‑purity, hazardous ESGs
• Further, you have a proven track record of design and fabrication of gas panels and their control systems for handling hazardous ESGs under vacuum and high‑pressure conditions
• Experience integrating and operating commercial equipment within custom systems for testing ESGs at various temperature, pressure, and flow conditions
• Familiarity with P&ID development and review, HAZOP, PHA, and design safety reviews
• Experience with gas analysis techniques (e.g., GC‑TCD/FID, GC‑MS, FTIR, CRDS, RGA) is a plus
• You have the ability to work independently and adapt in a fast‑paced R&D environment with shifting priorities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including email, technical documentation, and presentations are required in this role
• Excellent interpersonal skills and effectiveness in collaborative teamwork
