Job summary

Studio McGee is seeking a Product Development Associate for Hard Goods to manage the full product development cycle from allocation through ordering. You will execute briefs, coordinate with overseas and domestic vendors, and keep teams informed with detailed progress updates.

Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. The role requires 3-5 years in product development or related fields, with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Owns hard goods category strategy by identifying opportunities, assessing vendor needs, and aligning concepts with financial goals.
• Creates comprehensive briefs and sets timeline expectations with overseas agents and domestic/overseas vendors.
• Supports creative direction and vendor communication on development, including amendments during the process.
• Leads organization of briefs and ensures information is collected.
• Maintains development tracker and tools with vendors to keep developments accurate and on time.
• Escalates execution issues by brief and broader concerns to the PD Manager.
• Identifies opportunities within production capabilities and defines acceptable quality standards with Sourcing.
• Collaborates with buyers, creative and sourcing teams to develop and execute merchandise strategies.
• Provides product information to marketing and copy teams; liaises with marketing and visual styling on samples and photoshoots.
• Oversees TOP approval and Sample Pass off processes; supports fulfillment and customer experience on product details.
• Owns special projects and finishes tasks as needed to benefit the company.

Overview:

The McGee & Co. Product Development team works collaboratively to organize and progress product developments and designs from inception to sample pass off. They house all product detail and changes in both documentation and physical labelling and placement.

The Product Development Associate, Hard Goods role supports the Hard Goods, Lighting and Decorative categories role by managing the full product development cycle from allocation through ordering. They are focused on the execution of briefs, overseeing organizational aspects of product maintenance, and keeping all teams informed on development progress at the appropriate level of detail. High level of critical thinking, organizational and communication skills are a must.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Development

• Owns hard goods category strategy by identifying areas of opportunity, assessing vendor needs, and aligning concepts with financial goals
• Initiates all developments with creating comprehensive briefs and establishes clear timeline expectations with our overseas agents and with both domestic and overseas vendors
• Supports the creative direction and vendor communication on development, including amendments throughout course of development
• Leads organization of briefs, ensuring all necessary information is collected
• Maintains development tracker and other communication tools with vendors to keep developments accurate and on time
• Escalates execution issues by brief, as well as broader concerns, to the PD Manager
• Identifies and seeks opportunities within production capabilities
• Defines acceptable quality standards in partnership with Sourcing

Cross Functional/Internal Team Role

• Strong point of view of McGee & Co. brand and market position to develop and execute merchandise strategies
• Collaborates with needs of buyers, creative and sourcing teams with strategic and purposeful development
• Ensure product details are accurate, well recorded and shared with the correct partners
• Provides all necessary product information to marketing and copy teams
• Liaison for marketing and visual styling on sample availability, timeliness, and photoshoots
• Resource for the fulfillment center and customer experience on questions and product details
• Oversees TOP approval process
• Oversees Sample Pass off process
• Flexible to finish any type of task for the benefit of the company
• Own special projects, various tasks and occasional errands as needed

This role is based at our Draper, Utah Visual Warehouse and Headquarters. Due to the hands-on nature of managing physical samples and collaborating cross-functionally, this position requires regular in-person presence. Candidates must be located in Utah.
