Sourcing & Product Development Specialist

A wholesale home décor and electronics company in downtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Hardlines Sourcing & Product Development Specialist. The ideal candidate will have experience sourcing products from Asia, negotiating costs, developing new products, and coordinating with overseas suppliers to meet retailer requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with production and sourcing managers to expand product categories and assortments.

• Research retail trends, conduct market analysis, and negotiate product costs.

• Collaborate with sales teams to identify buyer needs and product trends.

• Assist the design team with packaging details, product features, and dielines.

• Communicate regularly with overseas offices and suppliers, particularly in China.

• Coordinate special customer orders and communicate specific requirements to factories.

• Ensure suppliers meet product quality and safety standards required by major retailers.

• Identify and develop relationships with new suppliers and manufacturers.

• Source new products and categories to meet retailer needs.

• Review vendor packaging and compliance requirements and communicate specifications to factories.

• Coordinate product development and manufacturing timelines to support on-time production and delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a hardlines wholesale or import company.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience sourcing hardlines products from China.

• Experience working with overseas suppliers and manufacturing offices in Asia.

• Strong knowledge of product development, sourcing, cost negotiation, and manufacturing processes.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with sales, production, and design teams.

• Understanding of the manufacturing cycle, from product development through final delivery.
