Woof is the award-winning, innovative pet care brand on a mission to help dogs live happier, healthier lives through joyful play. Founded on the belief that the best products don't make you choose between what dogs need and what's good for them, we combine functional wellness, thoughtful design, and purpose-led play to strengthen dogs’ bodies, minds, and the bonds they share with the people they love.
We’ve been recognized with a number of awards for innovation in pet care across our product portfolio, including the Pupsicle (beloved by more than 3M+ pups and their people), Bite n’ Brush, and HonestChew.
Woof debuted at No. 1 in Consumer Products and No. 3 overall on the Inc. 5000 list of Fastest Growing Private Companies in America in 2025. For more information, visit mywoof.com and follow on social media: @mywoof.
The Opportunity:
As our Product Developer, you will be the technical right-hand to our Design Director. Your core mission is to take physical prototypes and industrial design (ID) intent and translate them into airtight technical documentation and manufacturable products.
While you will have opportunities to brainstorm, prototype, and jump into CAD, your superpower must be technical documentation and execution. We need someone who takes deep pride in building tech packs so clear that a factory can build the product with zero guesswork. By owning our specs, BOMs, packaging layouts, and manufacturing communication, you will free up our design leadership to focus on future innovations, making you a critical engine for our growth.
Responsibilities:
- Own the Tech Packs: Create, update, and manage comprehensive tech packs, specification sheets, and Bill of Materials (BOMs). You will ensure that every dimension, tolerance, material callout, assembly step, and color code is perfectly documented.
- Documentation Gatekeeping: Maintain version control, manage engineering change notices (ECNs), and ensure all manufacturing documentation is completely up-to-date across our entire portfolio. Helping create QA documentation. Maintaining revision history. Maintaining physical prototype and sample library.
- Packaging & Logistics Execution: Manage packaging dielines, calculate master carton sizing, and optimize palletization to ensure our products ship efficiently and safely.
- Vendor Communication: Be the daily technical point of contact for our contract manufacturers. Share updated tech packs, communicate requirements clearly, and review tooling samples (T1/T2) to get products over the finish line.
- CAD & Mechanical Modeling: Maintain and update SolidWorks assemblies and parts based on physical prototypes, ID surface models, or factory feedback.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Work closely with design and manufacturing partners to ensure products are optimized for injection molding, extrusion, and assembly.
- Material Exploration: Partner with our team to test and select materials. You will learn and help apply the nuances of rubbers, elastomers, and eco-friendly/sustainable materials for dog chews and hardgoods.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design (with a heavy technical focus), or a related field.
- Experience: 4–6 years of professional experience in physical product development, technical documentation, or manufacturing execution.
- Documentation Obsession: You view a well‑organized tech pack as a work of art. You love order, precision, and keeping track of revisions, and you never let a missing dimension slip through the cracks.
- Tech Pack & 2D Proficiency: Strong capability in building clear, visual spec sheets. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator/AutoCAD is highly desired for managing packaging dielines and tech pack layouts.
- SolidWorks Capability: Solid proficiency in SolidWorks. You don't need to be a master surfacing expert, but you need to confidently manage assemblies, update parts, and pull 2D drawings.
- Openness to the Whole Process: You are excited to own the less glamorous but highly critical sides of product development, like calculating master carton sizes and managing spreadsheets.
- ID Empathy: You understand the value of Industrial Design, want to be part of the creative process, and strive to maintain design intent while solving for manufacturing constraints.
Preferred Qualifications:
- You’ve been through the full product lifecycle and have experience taking a product from early concept to mass production.
- You are a massive pet lover and understand the quirks of designing for animals (e.g., bite force, chew habits, safety constraints).
- Previous experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) or working directly with overseas contract manufacturers.
What Success Looks Like
- In 30 Days: You have learned our product portfolio, understand our file management system, and are actively updating existing tech packs and specification sheets.
- In 90 Days: You have successfully taken the day‑to‑day technical documentation off the Design Director’s plate. You are independently building out tech packs for new products, tracking BOMs, and catching basic DFM issues before they go to the factory.
- In 6 Months: You are the absolute gatekeeper of our product data. Factories rarely have to ask clarifying questions because your tech packs are bulletproof. You are confidently managing packaging dielines, master carton layouts, and updating SolidWorks models as tooling changes occur.
