About The Role
We're seeking a Senior Design Systems designer to lead our native iOS and Android design system, a key priority that will transform user experiences. You will standardize existing mobile applications and develop a cohesive visual language extending our web design system to native platforms. The ideal candidate has expertise in Figma component creation, token architecture, accessibility, documentation, and collaboration with engineers. This is an exciting opportunity to shape our mobile design future from the ground up.

About The Team
Our design systems team includes designers and engineers dedicated to creating and maintaining a comprehensive set of Figma and coded components across platforms. We are evolving our design system into its next stage of maturity, led by our CDO, Amy Thibodeau.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  1. Define and maintain semantic and functional tokens for the design system
  2. Create native and responsive components, patterns, and templates in Figma
  3. Support Gusto employees in designing native experiences through Office Hours and Slack
  4. Collaborate with Engineering to ensure consistency across Figma, native, and web views
  5. Document and publish design decisions and guidance
  6. Communicate effectively with a service mindset

Qualifications

  1. 3+ years in mobile design systems, supporting full lifecycle creation and maintenance; experience with mobile web and native components required
  2. 5+ years in product design
  3. Technical acumen for pairing with engineering on component APIs
  4. Deep understanding of accessibility guidelines and WCAG AA compliance
  5. Expertise in Figma, including complex components, variants, and interactions; knowledge of Material and HIG design standards
  6. High level of design craft and polish
  7. Strong documentation and storytelling skills
  8. Preferred skills: animation, prototyping, data visualization, iconography

Gusto offers competitive compensation, emphasizing equity ownership. The salary range for this role is $139,000–$199,000 in Denver and most remote locations, and $179,000–$221,000 in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York, with final offers based on experience.

Our offices are in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, with expectations for in-office work 2-3 days per week or more, depending on the role.
