Stripe invites a product lawyer to join the Product Legal team to advise on regulatory and technology matters across payments and related services. The role emphasizes collaboration with product, engineering, compliance, and business development to navigate complex regulatory environments and enable innovative product offerings.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience as a lawyer in technology and fintech, with strong communication skills and sound judgment to operate under ambiguity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer working on complex regulatory or technology matters.
• Passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models quickly.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and project management skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent judgment and the ability to make smart decisions in ambiguity.
• Bonus: experience in fintech, risk, payments, and financial regulations; contract drafting experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as product counsel to Stripe’s Payments and Terminal product teams, expanding product offerings and handling escalations.
• Counsel on payments regulations, schemes rules, consumer protection, marketing, IP, and data privacy.
• Collaborate with engineering, compliance, business development, and marketing on product development and commercialization.
• Clear issues impacting regulatory structure, customer agreements, and strategic financial partnerships.
• Help build scalable processes for legal review and launch of new products.
• Draft, review, and update foundational documents for product offerings.
• Stay up-to-date on US and international laws affecting privacy, data security, and financial services.
• Partner with senior managers as a trusted advisor.
