Job summary

Tekion Corp seeks a Senior Privacy Counsel to provide legal guidance on privacy, product development, and regulatory compliance while enabling innovative cloud-native automotive solutions. You will partner with product, engineering, and business teams to build privacy-forward, legally compliant offerings and services.

Ideal candidates have 6–9 years of experience in product counseling and privacy law, with JD and active bar membership.

Qualifications

• 6–9 years of legal experience focusing on product counseling and privacy law.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited school; active bar membership.
• Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience advising product and engineering teams at a technology company.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT or similar certifications preferred.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Advises on privacy and product development to ensure compliance with global privacy laws.
• Partners with Product and Engineering to embed privacy-by-design into lifecycles.
• Reviews privacy provisions in commercial agreements, including data processing and cross-border transfers.
• Conducts PIAs and DPIAs and risk analyses for new features and initiatives.
• Monitors changes in privacy, AI, and digital regulation for proactive compliance.
• Develops and maintains internal policies and playbooks on privacy and product compliance.
• Collaborates with Security, Compliance and IT on incident response and data governance.
• Provides privacy and product counseling across business units, including marketing and analytics.

Job Introduction

Provides legal counsel on privacy, product development, and regulatory compliance, enabling Tekion to deliver innovative solutions while maintaining trust and meeting global legal obligations. Acts as a strategic partner to product, engineering, and business teams in building privacy‑forward, legally compliant products and services.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Advises on product design and implementation to ensure compliance with global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging regulations.
• Partners with Product and Engineering teams to embed privacy‑by‑design and privacy‑by‑default into product development lifecycles.
• Reviews and negotiates privacy‑related provisions in commercial agreements, including data processing and cross‑border transfer clauses.
• Conducts privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and risk analyses for new features and initiatives.
• Monitors and interprets changes in privacy, AI, and digital regulation to ensure proactive compliance.
• Develops and maintains internal policies, guidance documents, and playbooks related to privacy and product compliance.
• Collaborates with Security, Compliance, and IT teams on incident response, data governance, and user rights management.
• Provides privacy and product counseling across business units, including on marketing, analytics, cookies, and mobile technologies.

Basic Qualifications

• 6–9 years of legal experience, with a focus on product counseling and privacy law
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution; active bar membership in good standing
• Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws and regulatory frameworks
• Experience advising product and engineering teams within a technology company
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT, or similar certifications preferred
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills

Compensation Range: $138,375 - $230,500
