Responsibilities

  • Serve customers in the Produce Department with best‑in‑class service.
  • Provide timely, friendly service when answering questions or resolving complaints.
  • Manage all areas of the Produce Department and lead by example.
  • Keep the Produce Department full and fresh with high quality produce.
  • Oversee weekly production schedule for fresh and packaged produce.
  • Maintain shelves stocked, product rotated and area clean.
  • Maintain and update weekly reports (purchasing, sanitation, inventory).
  • Order inventory based on reports (shrink, overage, expired).
  • Control shrink and losses within the department.
  • Oversee, manage and train associates; coaching and feedback.
  • Assist with unloading, stocking and rotating daily produce deliveries.
  • Create attractive Produce displays and end caps per sales plan.
  • Communicate with Store Manager on department conditions and needs.
  • Participate in training and leadership activities as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment per safety regulations.

The Produce Manager will be responsible for modeling and promoting Hansen’s IGA Market culture by consistently providing “best in class” service to our guests. The main responsibility of the Produce Manager is to oversee production, associates, customer satisfaction and standards for the Produce Department. As a part of the Hansen’s IGA Market leadership team, the Produce Manager must demonstrate accountability, strong team management skills and hands‑on involvement, both on the floor and with the team.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve customers in the Produce Department while modeling Hansen’s IGA Market culture and providing “best in class” customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business
  • Provide consistent, timely and friendly customer service when answering questions, making suggestions and resolving complaints
  • Manage all areas of the Produce Department, consistently leading by example and applying effective management techniques
  • Ensure that the Produce Department is always full and fresh with the best quality produce
  • Oversee weekly production schedule for fresh and packaged produce
  • Maintain department conditions, ensuring shelves are stocked, product is rotated and the department is clean and well organized
  • Maintain and update weekly reports (purchasing, sanitation and inventory)
  • Order inventory based on reports (shrink, overage, expired, etc.)
  • Control shrink
  • Oversee, manage and train associates; including, but not limited to coaching, performance improvement, recognition, 1:1 meetings and feedback
  • Assist with unloading, stocking and rotating daily produce deliveries
  • Create attractive Produce Department displays and end caps based on specific weekly sales and merchandising plans
  • Communicate with Store Manager in regard to department conditions, associate relations, department hiring needs, associate accidents and other concerns as needed
  • Participate in additional training and leadership activities as directed
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures
  • Operate, maintain and clean produce equipment including knives, juicers, coolers and slicers
  • Assist with all other Produce Department duties as needed
Qualifications: Required Qualifications for Produce Manager
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Produce equipment
  • Prior experience with produce within a grocery store setting, as well as leadership experience is required
  • Proficient knife-handling skills, especially while preparing large quantities of produce
  • Ability to successfully lead, coach, train, develop and motivate a team
  • Ability to provide clear direction and delegate responsibilities to a team after determining department needs
  • Strong knowledge of local and state health, sanitation and safety regulations
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions, priorities and circumstances
  • Ability to maintain composure, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding department needs and priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong sense of urgency, time management, prioritization and multitasking skills
