Job summary

Kroger in Decatur, IN is seeking a store associate to help create an outstanding customer experience and maintain a safe, clean environment. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and promote corporate brands while answering product questions.

You will gain knowledge of products, help with produce platters, and inform customers of specials. You will also handle merchandise, maintain quality, and uphold safety procedures in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• Must have current food handlers permit once employed.
• Effective communication skills.

• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)

Responsibilities

• Promote Corporate Brands to customers.
• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions about products sold within the department and store.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to questions and make suggestions.
• Assist with the preparation produce platters/trays.
• Inform customers of produce specials.
• Recommend items to customers to ensure they get products they want and need.
• Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory merchandise.
• Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action.
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Display a positive attitude.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity to store management.
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
