Job summary

Natural Grocers is seeking a Produce Assistant to support the Produce Manager in operating and growing the department's profitability. This role emphasizes world-class customer service, accurate inventory, and maintaining a fresh, inviting produce area.

The position requires availability in the evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a 40-hour work week. Training and certification in food safety may be required and benefits are provided to eligible crew members.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of experience in grocery, retail or produce environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
• 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
• Ability to pass food safety training courses and certifications as required by law.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
• Urgency in completing tasks and strong customer service skills.
• Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
• Cashier training and ability to count currency.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Provide world-class customer service as a top priority.
• Assist produce manager with ordering and inventory to support profitability.
• Maintain a full, inviting, and shopable produce department.
• Assist in training and monitoring department personnel.
• Handle register functions including backup cashiering and returns.
• Ensure department safety, quality, and compliance with standards.
• Assist in demos and addressing customer questions.
