Overview
The Produce Assistant is responsible for assisting the Produce Manager in the successful operation and profitability of the produce department.
Main Responsibilities:
- Providing world-class customer service as a top priority.
- Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence while adhering to all policies.
- Creating an inviting, full, and shopable produce department.
- Assisting in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
- Managing margin, COGs, and overall profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing purchasing efficiency.
- Maintaining the produce department daily, ensuring freshness and abundance.
- Culling, crisping, rotating, and properly handling produce.
- Ordering and receiving certified organic produce.
- Ensuring all products meet company standards and tools are cleaned properly.
- Receiving produce orders and offering special orders.
- Training and monitoring department personnel.
- Conducting demos and addressing performance issues.
- Handling register functions, including backup cashiering and customer service.
- Ensuring safety and security of customers and staff.
- Answering customer questions and increasing product knowledge.
- Utilizing email and information systems as needed.
- Completing cash processes when necessary.
- Working a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with 40 hours per week.
- This position has limited managerial functions but is not the overall Manager on Duty.
All employees are expected to be hands-on and contribute to the company's success.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in grocery, retail, or produce preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- Experience supervising others is preferred.
- Ability to pass food safety training and maintain certifications.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and stay focused.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Cashier trained and able to handle currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
