Job summary

Field Fresh Foods is seeking a Procurement - Purchasing Agent to manage purchasing of produce, raw materials, packaging, and supplies. You will work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure cost-effective, timely procurement and optimal inventory levels.

The ideal candidate negotiates effectively, analyzes pricing, and balances cost, quality, and service in a fast-paced environment.

Job Summary

As a Procurement - Purchasing Agent at Field Fresh Foods, you will play a key role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of fresh produce, raw materials, packaging, supplies, and other goods needed to support our operations. You will work closely with suppliers and internal departments to maintain appropriate inventory levels, manage purchase orders, monitor market conditions, and ensure materials meet our expectations for quality, cost, availability, and service.

The ideal candidate is a strong negotiator and analytical problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance cost, quality, inventory, and changing operational demands while developing strong supplier relationships.

What You’ll Do

• Purchase fresh produce, raw materials, packaging, supplies, and other products required to support daily operations.
• Create, process, and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of quantities, pricing, specifications, and delivery requirements.
• Monitor inventory levels, usage, forecasts, and production requirements to determine purchasing needs and prevent shortages or excess inventory.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while ensuring expectations for quality, pricing, availability, and service are consistently met.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and other purchasing conditions to achieve competitive costs and favorable business terms.
• Monitor market conditions, commodity pricing, seasonal availability, and supply trends that may impact purchasing decisions.
• Source and evaluate new and alternative suppliers to improve cost, quality, service, and supply continuity.
• Compare supplier quotes and conduct cost and pricing analysis to support informed purchasing decisions.
• Coordinate with Production, Operations, Sales, Quality, Receiving, and Finance to ensure materials are available when needed.
• Track open purchase orders and communicate with suppliers regarding delivery schedules, shortages, substitutions, and delays.
• Work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality, quantity, pricing, receiving, and invoice discrepancies.
• Assist with managing product substitutions and supply interruptions while minimizing disruption to operations and customers.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, and supporting documentation.
• Analyze purchasing and supplier data using Excel and other reporting tools to identify trends, savings opportunities, and areas for improvement.
• Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, inventory management, cost control, and supplier performance.
• Support company initiatives related to cost savings, waste reduction, quality, and operational efficiency.

What You Bring To The Table

• Experience: Previous experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, inventory management, produce, food manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
• Purchasing Skills: Understanding of purchase orders, supplier management, inventory requirements, pricing, lead times, and purchasing processes.
• Negotiation Skills: Ability to effectively negotiate pricing, terms, availability, and service expectations while maintaining positive supplier relationships.
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to evaluate pricing, inventory, usage, market conditions, and supplier performance to make sound purchasing decisions.
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP, purchasing, inventory, or supply chain systems.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal departments.
• Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to respond quickly to shortages, changing demand, supplier issues, and other supply challenges while developing practical solutions.
• Organization: Ability to manage multiple suppliers, purchase orders, deadlines, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to Detail: Strong commitment to accuracy when reviewing pricing, quantities, specifications, purchase orders, and supplier documentation.
• Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Production, Sales, Quality, Receiving, and Finance to support company goals.
