Job summary

Ventura Coastal in Tipton, CA is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to buy materials, parts, supplies, services, and equipment, optimizing price, delivery, and terms while following established purchasing policies and procedures.

The role handles expediting, maintaining purchase order due dates, and communicating with manufacturing locations. This is the first-level professional who typically purchases less than $5 million per year; in its absence, the Purchasing Specialist will perform these duties.

Qualifications

• Associate degree / 2-year college in Business Administration.
• 1–5 years’ experience in Admin or Customer Service in food/consumer products.
• Purchasing experience is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP applications.
• Excellent communication in English, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work in a team and manage inventory and packing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review requisitions for accuracy and GL accounts, convert to Purchase Orders.
• Place purchase orders with vendors via phone, email, or online; issue CapEx PO and tax exemptions as needed.
• Assist vendor qualification; ensure W9s, COIs, and ACH details are up to date.
• Obtain vendor confirmations and update promise dates in ERP; inform plants and departments accordingly.
• Perform general purchasing support tasks and coordinate with production on supplies and packaging.
