Job summary

Baseten is seeking a Procurement Lead to build Baseten's procurement function from the ground up. This high-ownership role defines how the company runs procurement and scales purchasing workflows and vendor relationships.

You'll partner with Finance, Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and business owners to design guardrails and processes that empower teams while reducing friction as we grow. This is a senior, strategic role based in SF or NY with in-person work.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive procurement experience, incl. building or maturing function at a high-growth tech company.
• Proven in designing procurement processes, policies, and systems from the ground up.
• Experience running RFPs and vendor selection for multiple spend categories.
• Strategic sourcing and vendor contract negotiation across spend areas.
• Partnered with Security, Compliance and Legal on vendor risk reviews.
• Comfortable operating with ambiguity and creating structure where none exists.
• Strong cross-functional partnership with Finance, Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and business owners.
• Based in San Francisco or New York with in-person work 3+ days/week.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Baseten's first company-wide procurement process and workflows.
• Establish procurement policies (spend thresholds, approvals, bidding) for a high-growth business.
• Create scalable processes that avoid friction and speed buying across teams.
• Define the operating model and roadmap for a maturing procurement function.
• Own vendor onboarding, due diligence, and risk assessment with Security, Compliance, and Legal.
• Lead or support sourcing, RFPs, and contracts to free up business owners' time.
