Job description

Keep the Details Moving. Keep the Member Experience Strong.

A smooth lending experience depends on what happens between application and underwriting: complete documentation, accurate information, clear communication, and consistent follow-through. As our Processing Specialist, Lending Experience, you will help move personal, auto, and credit card loans through the origination process while supporting members, loan officers, underwriters, and internal lending partners.

Why This Role Matters

Processing is where the details come together. This role reduces avoidable delays, errors, and rework by ensuring loan files are complete, system information is accurate, outstanding requirements are followed through, and borrowers and internal partners know what comes next. The role also supports Lending Experience growth by identifying member needs, recommending appropriate solutions, and contributing to established cross-sell, loan-origination, and net-loan-growth expectations.

What You'll Own
  • Process personal, auto, and credit card loan applications by gathering and verifying borrower information, income documentation, and other required paperwork.
  • Review loan applications and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, underwriting requirements, regulatory requirements, and internal policy adherence.
  • Enter, maintain, and update loan information accurately in the loan origination system, complete required fields, and ensure documentation is properly organized and indexed.
  • Prepare loan files for underwriting review by confirming required documentation is complete, current, and accessible.
  • Communicate with borrowers, loan officers, underwriters, and internal partners to request documentation, provide loan-status updates, address routine questions, and coordinate next steps.
  • Follow up on missing information and outstanding documentation, manage assigned processing timelines and deadlines, and elevate non-routine or higher-risk issues appropriately.
  • Identify member needs and appropriate cross-sell opportunities, recommend and, where authorized, sell relevant credit union and ancillary products within assigned authority.
  • Contribute to department loan-origination and net-loan-growth goals through timely processing, product awareness, member-focused conversations, and consistent follow-through.
  • Apply lending procedures, confidentiality expectations, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and applicable BSA/AML and OFAC requirements consistently in daily work.
  • Participate in training and ongoing development, apply updated guidance to daily work, and identify or raise practical opportunities to improve timeliness, accuracy, file readiness, or reduce rework.
What Success Looks Like

Success means assigned loan files are complete, accurate, organized, and ready for underwriting; loan-origination system information is reliable; outstanding documentation is followed through; and borrowers and internal partners receive timely, professional communication. Processing issues are identified early and escalated appropriately, avoidable errors and rework are minimized, and established cross-sell and lending-growth expectations are supported while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and member fit.

Who Thrives Here

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Notice the details others may miss and take pride in accurate, complete work.
  • Stay organized, manage routine priorities effectively, and follow through on deadlines and commitments.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with members, teammates, and internal partners.
  • Use sound judgment to resolve routine issues and know when additional guidance or escalation is appropriate.
  • Are comfortable learning lending procedures, systems, regulatory requirements, and new ways of working.
  • Can balance member service, quality, compliance, productivity, and growth expectations without losing sight of the member's needs.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to accurately review and process documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with borrowers, colleagues, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow guidance, manage routine workload, adapt to changing priorities, and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, accuracy, and member-focused service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use loan-origination and document-management systems required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in banking, lending, or financial services.
  • Notary and NMLS credentials.
The Opportunity

This is a foundational Lending Experience role for someone who enjoys detailed work, clear follow-through, and helping loans move forward. On any given day, you may review documentation, update a loan file, contact a borrower about an outstanding item, coordinate with an underwriter, identify an appropriate product opportunity, or work through a processing issue with a senior team member. For the right person, that variety offers an opportunity to build deeper lending expertise while making a visible contribution to the member experience and department results.
