Job summary

Central Peninsula Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Processing Laboratory Assistant II for our full-time day shift in Soldotna, Alaska.

The role includes receiving specimens, processing and labeling, and ensuring proper packaging for transport, while maintaining safety with biohazardous materials. The position requires one year of clerical healthcare experience, one year of specimen processing/packaging, and BLSP (CPR) certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Clerical office experience in a healthcare setting (1 year)
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, handling, and processing procedures
• Ability to work in a team and maintain patient-focused service
• Compliance with safety procedures when handling biohazards and chemicals (e.g., alcohol, xylene, formalin)
• BLSP (CPR) certification within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities

• Receive and register specimens into the Clinical Laboratory.
• Complete requisitions, label specimens, and stabilize specimens as needed.
• Check specimen integrity and package for transportation per DOT standards.
• Research and reorder tests as required; communicate with clinics and reference labs.
• Provide backup support for Outpatient Laboratory, waived testing, courier packets, and clerical activities.
• Assist with inventory and supply ordering for Clinical Lab.
• Support a calm, professional response to emergent situations and maintain a customer/patient-focused approach.
