Job summary

Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team. You will assist with specimen collection, processing, and verification to ensure timely, accurate testing for patient care and support a high-functioning lab environment.

You will provide courteous service to patients, family members, physicians, and staff, document properly, and help train new staff while supporting multiple departments within the lab and maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications

• Certification in phlebotomy highly preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills; self-discipline in organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
• Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
• One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Course in medical terminology preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
• Obtain specimens through venipuncture and capillary collection techniques, and process those specimens so they are ready for testing within the laboratory.
• Process reference lab specimens for shipment, ensuring quality and acceptable turn-around-times.
• Verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
• Transcribe written orders for outpatient specimens and ensure test results are sent to the ordering physician.
• Train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
