Job summary

Optimax Systems, Inc. seeks a Process Writer to support process creation for optical manufacturing, writing and releasing processes for lenses and customer specifications.

You will review orders, assess tooling, create work orders for tooling if needed, and coordinate with Manufacturing Engineers and Sales to resolve part specifications. On-the-job training (OJT) will develop your skills and enable advancement based on education, experience and leadership potential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or higher; AAS or above preferred.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints and orders.
  • Good math skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams; Epicor Kinetic experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work according to planned manufacturing start dates and coordinate process writing updates.
  • Attend and/or facilitate production planning meetings with PMs and experts as required.
  • Provide purchasing with recommendations on blank/material sizing and quantities.
  • Create additional drawing markups to improve manufacturability without changing final fit, form, or function.
  • Determine parameters of parts to be manufactured and required tooling.
  • Create clear, accurate, and easy-to-follow operational procedures for customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with department process checkers and approvers to resolve questions.
  • Provide status updates to Process Creation team and present at weekly Release Board.
  • Update Process Creation documentation and ensure Optimax standards are followed.
  • Create rework processes for any critical DMRs.
  • Support Job Release with process-related issues and questions.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Follow the Adult Contract and company policy.

Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:

The Process Writer supports Process Creation in writing, documenting, and releasing the manufacturing processes required to fabricate lenses and other optical specific customer requirements. Reviews each new order with respect to existing process steps and either creates processes or reworks processes to meet the customer requirements. The Process Writer will assess tooling for each process, and if required, creates work orders for new tooling. They review all recommended fabrication processes with Cell Leaders for manufacturing approval, then release processes. Works with the Manufacturing Engineers and Sales to resolve issues regarding part specifications, tolerances and fabrication processes.

Through On the Job Traingin (OJT), the Process Writer will:
  • Prioritizes work according to planned manufacturing start dates and coordinates process writing updates to manage their own workflow.
  • Attend and/or facilitate any production planning meeting(s) with Program/Project Managers, and team experts as required to effectively support customer program and projects
  • Provide purchasing with recommendations regarding appropriate blank/material sizing and quantities to support production requirements
  • Create additional drawing markups to improve manufacturability without changing the final fit, form, or function of the optic.
  • Determine parameters of parts to be manufactured and required tooling.
  • Creates clear, accurate, and easy-to-follow operational procedures specific to customer requirements
  • C ollaborate with designated departmental process checkers and approvers to address and resolve questions or concerns related to the manufacturing process
  • P rovide status updates to the process creation Team current project(s) and present at the weekly Process Creation Release Board Meeting
  • U pdate Process Creation documentation & ensure Optimax manufacturing standards are followed
  • C reate rework process for any critical DMR's
  • S upport Job Release with any process related issues and/or questions
  • M aintain a clean & orderly workspace
  • F ollows the Adult Contract & adherence to Optimax Company Policy

Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, AAS degree or above.
  • Requires good math skills, ability to read & interpret blueprints, customer statement of work, & general understanding of optical materials and processing. Optics manufacturing experience a plus. Attention to details a must.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Epicor Kinetic, plus internal Company programs
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, results driven team player.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • May require area specific safety training.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes.
  • May be assigned to various production areas as needs require.
