Job summary

Boise Cascade is seeking a machine operator to support its wood products manufacturing operations. The role involves performing line duties, recording data, and adhering to safety rules in a loud, industrial environment.

You will help prioritize work orders, assist with preventive maintenance, and work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and willingness to work holidays and overtime.

Qualifications

  • Experience using a computer for record-keeping and documentation.
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Willing and able to work rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights).
  • Willing and able to wear safety equipment (PPE) as required.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate daily activities and changes at shift changes.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce downtime.
  • Perform first line maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in prioritization of scheduled work orders.
  • Coordinate with planners and schedulers to prioritize critical work.
  • Understand backlog work.
  • Assist with PMs and ensure timely completion of PMs.
  • Investigate root causes of downtime events.
  • Minimize product waste.
  • Report quality issues to leadership and implement corrections.

Responsibilities:
  • Effectively communicate daily activities and changes at departmental shift changes.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation.
  • Look for opportunities to reduce downtime.
  • Perform first line maintenance task.
  • Assist in prioritization of scheduled work orders
  • Communicate with planners and schedulers to prioritize critical work.
  • Know and understand the work in the backlog.
  • Assist maintenance and production with PMs. 100% of PMs completed timely.
  • Assist maintenance and production leaders to investigate root cause of downtime events.
  • Minimize product waste.
  • Communicate quality issues to Lead Technician and team. Give feedback for corrections.
Qualifications:
  • Basic Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least six (6) months of experience in manufacturing, farming, agriculture, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical, construction, warehouse, or military environment
  • Experience using a computer for record-keeping and documentation functions
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Willing and able to work a rotating twelve (12) hour shift (days and nights)
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, cold, dusty, and noisy industrial environment
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Willing and able to wear safety equipment, i.e.: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, and other PPE as required by specific jobs
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one (1) year of experience working as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Experience working in lumber or wood products
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment in a manufacturing environment
