Job summary

Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies in Cleveland, GA seeks a Process Technician Apprentice (Controls) to assist with troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment and to support PLC programming, HMI development, and equipment commissioning. You will work under supervision to improve reliability, safety, and productivity in a fast-paced plant environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; technical program preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and automation systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Exposure to PLC platforms (Mitsubishi, Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley).
  • Willingness to learn HMIs and industrial networks.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Controls Engineers and Technicians with troubleshooting automated equipment.
  • Support PLC programming, backups, documentation, and minor changes.
  • Assist with HMI development, troubleshooting, updates.
  • Troubleshoot control panels, sensors, relays, VFDs, servo systems, safety devices.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new equipment and lines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on control systems and automation equipment.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting and device communication.
  • Support robotics and automated inspection systems where applicable.
  • Document modifications and maintain records.
  • Assist in creating operator instructions and training materials.
  • Participate in Kaizen and continuous improvement activities.
  • Follow safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.

Works under the guidance of Controls Engineers and senior Controls Technicians to support manufacturing automation systems. Assists with the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, drives, and automated production systems. Supports new equipment launches, equipment modifications, and process improvements while developing technical skills in industrial controls and automation. Uses troubleshooting and continuous improvement methods to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, increase productivity, and support workplace safety.

Process Technician Apprentice (Controls)
Responsibilities
  • Assist Controls Engineers and Controls Technicians with troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Support PLC programming, troubleshooting, backups, documentation, and minor program modifications under supervision.
  • Assist with HMI development, troubleshooting, and updates.
  • Troubleshoot electrical control panels, sensors, actuators, relays, VFDs, servo systems, and safety devices.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new automation equipment and production lines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on control systems and automation equipment.
  • Assist with industrial network troubleshooting and device communication issues.
  • Support robotics, machine vision, and automated inspection systems where applicable.
  • Document electrical and controls modifications and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in the development of operator work instructions and training materials.
  • Support equipment reliability improvements and downtime reduction initiatives.
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in Kaizen and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Utilize project management and engineering change processes when supporting controls projects.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety standards, electrical safety requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, automation equipment, and industrial controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Exposure to PLC platforms such as Mitsubishi, Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley, or PLC Direct preferred.
  • Understanding of industrial control devices including Sensors, Relays, Safety circuits, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Servo systems
  • Familiarity with Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, or similar is a plus.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Good math skills, including algebra and basic technical calculations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flexible schedules as required.
  • Ability to travel, including international travel, as required.
  • Must be willing to work off shifts in the future.
  • High School Diploma required; Technical School diploma or enrollment in an Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Automation, or related program preferred.
