Job summary

Woodbridge Chattanooga Formed Plastics L.P. is seeking a Controls Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize instrumentation and control systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role requires strong expertise in PLCs, robotics, and electrical systems to diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software issues and to ensure reliable plant operations. You will work with Beckhoff TwinCAT PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and FANUC robotics, performing programming, diagnostics,

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Hands-on Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC programming experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting Siemens and Beckhoff PLC systems (hardware and software).
  • FANUC training (Teach Pendant) or equivalent.
  • Strong FANUC robot operation, programming, and fault diagnostics.
  • Ability to read P&ID diagrams and hydraulic/pneumatic drawings.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and best practices.
  • Experience with inventory management systems for maintenance parts.

Responsibilities

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC systems, including Beckhoff TwinCAT and Siemens PLCs, at hardware and software levels.
  • Perform PLC programming, modifications, and diagnostics using TwinCAT or equivalent platforms.
  • Execute PLC login, system monitoring, and fault diagnostics to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and automation issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Interpret and work from electrical blueprints, P&ID diagrams, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.
  • Support robotics systems, including FANUC robots, with teach pendant programming and fault code analysis.
  • Perform robot programming and operation using FANUC Handling Tool software.
  • Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain and manage spare parts inventory for instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and company policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve system performance and reliability.

Job Summary:

The ControlsTechnician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing instrumentation and control systems in a high pace manufacturing environment. This role requires strong expertise in PLC systems, robotics, and electrical systems, along with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software issues to ensure reliable plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, and automated equipment
  • Troubleshoot and support PLC systems, including Beckhoff TwinCAT and Siemens PLCs, both at hardware and software levels
  • Perform PLC programming, modifications, and diagnostics using TwinCAT or equivalent platforms
  • Execute PLC login, system monitoring, and fault diagnostics to minimize downtime
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and automation issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques
  • Interpret and work from electrical blueprints, P&ID diagrams, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Hands-on experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC programming or similar PLC platforms
  • Experience troubleshooting Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLC systems (hardware and software)
  • Completion of FANUC training (Teach Pendant Programming) or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of FANUC robot operation, programming, and fault diagnostics
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • P&ID diagrams
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic drawings
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and best practices
  • Experience with inventory management systems for maintenance parts
Preferred Skills:
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills (“accelerated troubleshooting” / rapid fault isolation)
  • Experience in high-speed automated manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, Profinet, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Industrial/manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery, electrical systems, and robotics
  • May require standing, walking, and working in confined spaces or at heights
  • On-call or shift work may be required depending on operations
