Job summary

Domtar in Tatum, SC is hiring a Process Specialist in the Pulp & Utilities department. The role reports to the R&U Manager and supports operations, maintenance, and reliability improvements.

You will review daily operations, help prioritize planning, coordinate outages, and participate in contractor selection while monitoring spending and safety. Requirements include a BS in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering or 10 years related experience; strong communication and computer skills;

Qualifications

• BS in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of experience; or 10 years of related operational experience.
• Familiar with boilers, evaporators, water/effluent, and recaust/kiln.
• Safety and team oriented with a good work ethic and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Excellent communication and computer skills.
• Experience with SAP, Excel, Word, PI, PARCView, and MS Projects desirable.

Responsibilities

• Be an advocate for and an active member of the P&U management team.
• Support all operations and maintenance activities of the R&U area.
• Review daily operations strategies to ensure safe and efficient goal attainment.
• Identify and participate in continuous improvement and reliability activities.
• Review work orders and prioritize weekly planning and scheduling; participate in planning and scheduling for maintenance.
• Coordinate scheduled outages and respond to unscheduled events.
• Assist in contractor selection and spend monitoring against budget.
• Facilitate communications between rotating shifts, day maintenance, contract teams and day staff.
• Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis and SOP reviews.
• Develop new SOPs and train personnel as needed.
• Periodically fill vacancies for the R&U Manager.

The Process Specialist position is in the Pulp & Utilities (P&U) Department which includes both the Fiberline and Recovery & Utilities (R&U) areas. This position reports to the R&U Manager and will be a process resource for the area.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Be an advocate for and an active member of the P&U management team.
• Support all operations and maintenance activities of the R&U area.
• Review daily operations strategies to insure that we are safely and efficiently meeting our goals.
• Help identify and participate in continuous improvement and reliability improvement activities.
• Review work orders and help to prioritize weekly planning and scheduling. Participate in the weekly planning and scheduling process for maintenance work.
• Work with department leadership to help plan the scheduled outages and react to unscheduled events.
• Participate in selection of contractors and monitoring of spend against budget.
• Help to monitor day to day maintenance and operational spending against budgets.
• Help to facilitate good communications between the rotating shift teams, day maintenance teams, contract maintenance teams, and day staff.
• Participate in trouble shooting efforts such as Root Cause Failure Analysis.
• Participate in review of existing SOPs, development of new SOPs, and training of personnel as needed.
• Periodically fill vacancies for the R&U Manager.

Required Qualifications/Professional Experience:

• BS degree in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering with at least five years of appropriate experience; or a minimum of 10 years of operational experience related to Fiberline or Recovery & Utilities area.
• Should be familiar with most operational aspects of boilers, evaporators, water/effluent, and recaust/kiln.
• Safety and team oriented with a good work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
• Excellent communication and computer skills.
• Experience with SAP, Excel, Word, PI, PARCView, and Microsoft Projects is desirable.
