Job summary

Georgia-Pacific seeks a Chemical Process Safety Engineer to support the Toledo, OR containerboard mill. You will develop and implement process safety programs, risk assessment strategies, and management systems to reduce risk and create long-term value through Principle Based Management.

This technical role emphasizes leading without authority, coaching across operations, and expanding influence with site leadership. Strong communication and safety ownership will be essential to success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Science, Safety, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years’ experience in process safety or related manufacturing roles.
• Experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and 40 CFR 68 preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, facilitate, and participate in risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Provide engineering review and technical support for PHA, MOC, and PSSRs.
• Review equipment design specs, safeguidance, and operating procedures.
• Develop expertise in reactivity hazard management and process safety tools.
• Analyze incidents to drive corrective actions and performance improvements.
• Build process safety ownership across operations, maintenance, and safety teams.
• Help develop short- and long-term process safety objectives and measures.
• Review metrics to monitor process safety and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in the site on-call rotation as needed.
