Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for the Wauna Paper Mill in Clatskanie, Oregon. You will drive process safety initiatives, lead RCFA investigations, and support safety objectives across field and office settings with periodic on-call duties.

Reporting to the Chemical Process Safety Manager, you will manage risk assessments, provide technical direction, and mentor staff to embed process safety as a core duty while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or military environments.
• Background in chemical or mechanical engineering, or safety-focused technical roles (PSM-related).
• Experience with Process Safety regulations (29 CFR 1910.119; 40 CFR 68).
• Root-cause analysis experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop risk assessment strategies and participate in PHAs, design reviews, and risk management tools.
• Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for process safety incidents and near misses.
• Assist leadership in developing process safety objectives, targets, and measures.
• Analyze process safety incidents and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Review metrics to monitor process safety compliance and training effectiveness.
• Coordinate engineering review capabilities for PHA, MOC, and PSSR.
• Oversee process safety information including P&IDs, PFDs, and chemical compatibility matrices.
