Job summary

Sun Chemical is seeking a Process Safety Engineer II for North America to lead process safety management activities and drive risk reduction across our manufacturing sites. The role focuses on PHAs, risk assessments, PSSRs, and hazard reviews to ensure safe, compliant operations.

You will manage safety-related capital projects from concept through startup, conduct HAZOPs, support MOC, and partner with Operations, EHS, Maintenance, and external teams to deliver improvements and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in process or project engineering within the chemical industry.
• Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) experience; familiarity with NFPA, API RP 520/521, AutoCAD, P&IDs.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, including PHAs, risk assessments, PSSRs, and hazard reviews.
• Identify and implement safety, reliability, and process improvement solutions.
• Manage safety-related capital projects from concept through startup.
• Conduct HAZOPs, support Management of Change (MOC), and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with Operations, EHS, Maintenance, Procurement, and external partners.
• Support audits, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline

5+ years of experience in process or project engineering within the chemical industry

Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) experience, Knowledge of NFPA, API RP 520/521, AutoCAD, P&IDs, and project management tools

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred

• ATEX, SAP, ICC, fire protection, and PFAS experience
• Capital project management experience in manufacturing environments
