Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in engineering.
  • Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis.
  • Minimum 10 years’ combined refinery process engineering and refinery operations experience.
  • Experience leading Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) efforts.
  • Familiar with MOC, HAZOP, PSV, SOL and IOW development and evaluations.
  • Utilize What-If studies, HAZOP studies, or Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Experience chemical process modeling across unit operations.
  • Experience with PRO-II, HYSYS or PROMAX.
  • Strong Excel and Word skills.
  • Fluent in English.

  • Focus on specific unit(s) with daily monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Propose new work procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Identify, develop, and execute small projects for safety, environment, and margin.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, PHA reviews, and hazard analyses.
  • Identify and develop scope for large capital projects.
  • Mentor refinery engineers and technicians.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and industry groups.
  • Develop equipment specifications and advise on technology and bids.
  • Ensure timely review of drawings and MOC.
  • Support refinery turnarounds and 24-hour shift coverage.
  • Coordinate with Safety, Environmental, Operations, and Purchasing teams.

Job Description

Responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing refinery processes, including overseeing the production of petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel). Also ensuring that the refinery operates safely and efficiently. This role also involves troubleshooting and resolving problems in the manufacturing process and implementing new technologies to improve production. Additionally, this position works closely with other teams (maintenance, safety, and environmental) to ensure compliance with regulations and minimize negative impacts on the environment.

  • Provide Technical Support across Plant Operations.
  • Focus on specific unit(s) within the Refinery with responsibilities of daily monitoring and troubleshooting of the area(s), process optimization, design and development of capital projects
  • Propose new work procedures that will impact efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify, develop, and execute small projects that lead to improved safety, environmental performance, and/or margin capture.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, process safety reviews and process hazard analysis.
  • Identify and develop scope for large capital projects that lead to improved safety, environmental performance, and/or margin capture.
  • Mentor or provide supervision to refinery resources (engineers, technicians) and entry level Process Engineers.
  • Assist with the group interaction with outside vendors, contract process engineering services, and Industry Groups.
  • Develop or assist in individual equipment specifications and provide recommendations on technology and bid selection.
  • Ensure assigned drawing reviews and specific Management of Change Orders (MOC) are reviewed on a timely basis.
  • Participate in refinery turnarounds, including any required 24-hour shift coverage and support for individual process callout requirements.
  • Coordinate activities with other Refinery groups (Safety, Environmental, Operations, Controls, Economics and Purchasing), including identification of key compliance requirements and product specifications.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree, Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in engineering.
  • Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis.
  • Minimum 10 years’ combined refinery process engineering and refinery operations experience.
  • Experience leading Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) efforts, either individually or as part of a team.
  • Familiar with MOC, HAZOP, PSV, SOL and IOW development and evaluations.
  • Utilize and apply customary tools and techniques such as What-If studies, HAZOP studies, or Fault Tree Analysis to ensure an inherently safe process design and operation.
  • Experience performing chemical process modeling, from single unit operations to plant-wide multiple units, including multiple scenario material and energy balances.
  • Experience applying available software tools such as PRO-II, HYSYS or PROMAX.
  • Strong computer skills with Excel and Word.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong mathematical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to create/edit P&ID's and PFDs.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written communications.
