Job summary

Minth North America, Inc. is seeking a Process Planning Engineer to design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes in our Wixom, Michigan facility.

You will plan workflows, evaluate feasibility, and drive improvements to reduce waste and boost productivity across automotive component lines. The role requires a mechanical engineering background, 3+ years in manufacturing/process engineering, and familiarity with IATF 16949 and APQP core tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
• At least 3 years in manufacturing/process engineering with end-to-end project from quotation to SOP.
• Experience in automotive components preferred; familiar with IATF 16949 and APQP core tools.
• Proficient in CATIA or NX/UG for reading 3D models and developing process plans.
• Excel proficiency for takt time and capacity calculations.
• PFMEA software experience (APIS or Excel templates) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct process feasibility evaluation during quotation phase.
• Develop PFMEA, PFD, and process A-sheet for awarded projects.
• Plan production line layout, equipment and tooling, track delivery.
• Perform takt time and OEE analysis to identify bottlenecks.
• Implement poka-yoke and process error-proofing solutions.
• Support process changes and handover, document planning standards.

The Process Planning Engineer plays a critical role in the manufacturing industry by designing, developing, and optimizing production processes to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This position involves planning manufacturing workflows, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing innovative solutions that enhance productivity and reduce waste.

Primary Responsibilities

• Quotation phase: Conduct process feasibility evaluation, preliminary process routing planning, and tooling planning; participate in customer TR (Technical Review) communications to support quotation decision-making.
• Project award phase: Carry out detailed process feasibility evaluation and process planning; develop the Process Flow Diagram (PFD), PFMEA, Engineering A-sheet, and list of process special characteristics
• Responsible for production line layout design, equipment planning, and tooling planning, and track their implementation and delivery.
• Conduct takt time and OEE analysis to identify bottlenecks and support capacity validation.
• Plan and drive the implementation of process error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) solutions.
• Participate in process change management and production handover, and consolidate process planning standards and lessons learned.

Knowledge And Skills Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required or higher
• Experience: At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering, including at least one complete project followed through from the quotation or PFMEA phase to start of production (SOP).
• Industry background: Experience in automotive components (stampings, machining, welding, or assembly preferred); familiar with IATF 16949 and the APQP core tools.
• Tools & skills: Proficient in at least one CAD system (CATIA or NX/UG) for reading 3D models and developing process plans; able to use Excel for takt time and capacity calculations; experience with PFMEA software (e.g., APIS or Excel-based templates) is a plus
