Job summary

Job description

Key Responsibilities

Develop and/or assist in the development of complete designs of new products, subassemblies, and components. Develop product improvements as either product line extensions or value engineering cost savings. Calculate and validate critical mechanical and/or electrical design parameters in order to ensure a safe, reliable and cost-effective designs. Collaborate with product development team, consultants, suppliers, and manufacturing to develop concepts, resolve design issues, and implement designs into production that meet cost, timeline, and specification targets. Prepare 3D CAD models and drawings for components and assemblies. Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including BOM’s, drawings, and work instructions for new and existing products. Support production to achieve goals related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvements.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in engineering related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 2 years’ product design experience preferred. A working knowledge of common manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, stampings, aluminum and steel weldments, precision machined components, etc. 3D Solid modeling experience required. SolidWorks experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of process optimization techniques, lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies and statistical analysis. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues. Working knowledge of process safety, risk assessment and compliance with regulatory standards. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD. AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks experience preferred.

Qualifications

Must be able to work on multiple projects under time restrictions in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated engineering project management and organizational skills. Refrigeration and/or Electro-Mechanical design experience is a plus. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with suppliers, customers and employees within the organization. Available to travel, including internationally up to 20%. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Lean Manufacturing experience and knowledge is a plus. Must be results driven and self-motivated with a desire to achieve. Wear required safety equipment when on shop floor.

Physical Requirements

Being able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to navigate industrial settings such as uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, reaching, bending over, working at heights, small spaces, and confined spaces. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift equipment up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasional work in loud environments will be required.
