Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. in Toledo, OH is seeking a Process Engineer to provide technical operations oversight for the HBI plant.

The role focuses on developing, monitoring, and optimizing manufacturing processes to boost efficiency, quality, and productivity. The successful candidate will have a chemical/metallurgical engineering background with 3+ years in industrial operations, plus experience in process controls, statistics, and project management.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in petrochemical, metals, mineral processing, or similar industrial operations.
• At least one year of experience in process controls, statistics, and project management.

Responsibilities

• Provide process engineering support to ensure safe, reliable, and optimized plant operations.
• Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, mass and heat balances, plant design and functional descriptions.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and contract management practices.
• Support operations by prioritizing maintenance, recommending process improvements, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing operating conditions and plant performance.
• Monitor and improve feedstock processing, catalyst performance, unit benchmarking and reporting, and process best practices.
• Lead or participate in MOC activities, PHAs, RCAs, and incident investigations.
• Conduct plant trials and evaluate new reagents or technologies to reduce cost.
• Work with suppliers, contractors, operations, maintenance, and control room personnel to execute process improvement strategies.
