Job summary

Sydor Optics Inc. in Rochester, NY is seeking a Process Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer to help create methods, procedures and tools that improve manufacturing efficiencies, reduce costs and eliminate variance.

You will work with a team of engineers and development technicians to plan, implement and support optical manufacturing processes, read blueprints, develop fixtures, and manage customer projects.

Qualifications

• MS Office proficiency required.
• CAD/CAM systems experience expected.
• Working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma desired.
• Optical manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Experience managing customer projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop plans and calculations for engineering projects independently or with supervision.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, and sales teams.
• Learn to operate machines related to optical manufacturing.
• Create work instructions for new or modified manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with a team of engineers to solve manufacturing and quality challenges.
• Develop fixtures and tools aligned with R&D designs and specs.
• Read basic optical drawings/blueprints.
• Provide project management with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
• Perform other duties as needed.

The Process Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer works closely with a team of Engineers and Development Technicians to help create methods, procedures, and tools to help improve manufacturing efficiencies, decrease production costs, eliminate variance, and Project Management.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably in Optical, Mechanical or Manufacturing. Associates degree with related experience considered.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

1. MS Office proficiency.
2. CAD/CAM systems.
3. Working knowledge/exposure to Lean Six Sigma desired.
4. Optical manufacturing experience is not required but would be considered an asset.
5. Managing customer projects.

Essential Functions

1. Develop plans and make calculations for a variety of elements within an engineering project on his/her own or under the supervision of a senior Engineer.
2. Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, and sales groups.
3. Ability to operate or learn to operate machines related to optical manufacturing.
4. Create work instructions for newly developed/modified manufacturing processes.
5. Work with a team of engineers to solve manufacturing and quality challenges.
6. Develop fixtures and tools required for new products, in conjunction with R&D product design requirements and performance specifications.
7. Ability to read basic blueprints (optical drawings).
8. Provide Project Management with customers, vendors, and internal team.
9. Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
