Job summary

Magna International, Inc. is hiring for an engineering leadership role within Magna Exteriors. The position focuses on developing manufacturing processes for new programs, establishing lean floor layouts, and guiding teams through launches and problem resolution.

The candidate will supervise personnel, optimize production throughput, and ensure safety and quality on the shop floor. A B.S. in mechanical/industrial engineering is required, with automotive experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Industrial engineering required.
  • Experience in automotive/assembly environment preferred.
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes for new programs and prepare quotes.
  • Lead problem-solving using 8D or similar methodologies.
  • Establish production floor layouts supporting lean manufacturing.
  • Coordinate launches and ensure manufacturing effectiveness and quality.
  • Provide leadership and audit manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain attendance, time sheets, and vacation schedules.
  • Ensure safety as a top priority on the shop floor.
  • Mentor and supervise staff and ensure task completion.

The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop manufacturing processes for new programs. (Specify assembly equipment, estimate labor requirements, ensure effective employee training, etc.) Prepare quote and other customer required submissions.
  • Investigate problems using the 8D or similar problem solving methodologies. Lead teams to effective solutions.
  • Establish production floor layouts that promote lean manufacturing concepts and effective usage of space.
  • Periodically re-evaluate assemble in sequence and other operations to achieve increases in throughput to result in cost reduction.
  • Represent Nascote at assembly plants for problem evaluation or during launches. Represent Nascote at vendor shops to verify equipment operation prior to delivery.
  • Prepare Engineering Change documents and follow up as the changes move through departments.
  • Assist production to resolve technical and manufacturing problems and challenges.
  • Coordinate department responsibilities for launches or new programs. Provide leadership and audit the process for manufacturing effectiveness and quality.
  • Responsible for the overall production output in assigned area by ensuring assigned employees are performing their assigned duties.
  • Maintains positive employee relations within department, including: follows up on employee concerns / suggestions; resolves conflict situations; interprets and administers employee related policies.
  • Conducts performance appraisals on direct reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains attendance records and approves time sheets. Approves vacation schedules.
  • Utilize effective communication skills.
  • Work various shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
  • Make safety a top priority in work behavior and assembly line design.
  • Past work in assembly operations in an engineering, technical, or supervisory capacity (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of assembly design and operation. Actual background in customer relations, employee training, and manufacturing operations. A demonstrated history of organizational skills. A background in manufacturing process layout, and inventory management (preferred).
  • Must be computer literate to the point where visual basic, access, excel, are easily used and explained.
  • Auto-Cad operation is highly desired.
  • Must have the ability to be well presented to the customer and maintain composure in highly stressful situations.
  • Must be able to provide statements of work and effectively communicate with vendors/suppliers/contractors.
  • Should be able to assume supervisory duties and be effective at performing tasks through others.
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or another engineering discipline that provides the capability to perform the duties listed (required).
  • Experience in the Automotive Industry or another assembly related field (preferred).
