Job summary

Vertex is seeking a Scientist to lead design and execution of process development studies for a cell-based drug candidate targeting diabetes. Focus on cell banking and hESC expansion with robust data analysis and QbD principles.

The role requires experience with embryonic stem cell biology, GMP, and cross-functional collaboration. On-site at our Boston facilities with the potential for weekend coverage in a fast-paced team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with 6+ years for BS, 4+ for MS, or 0-3 for PhD depending on level.
• Advanced degree and experience in biopharmaceutical development strongly preferred.
• Experience with GMP and process development in cell culture is expected.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, analyze, and interpret studies supporting process development and cell banking.
• Apply QbD principles to build process understanding and establish parameters.
• Evaluate novel technologies to advance process and project strategy.
• Troubleshoot challenges and contribute to investigations using data-driven judgment.
• Communicate results clearly to teams and stakeholders.
• Ensure data integrity and documentation for tech transfers and regulatory filings.
• Coordinate study activities, sampling strategies, and resource planning.
• Lead projects and provide mentorship and technical support.
