Boston Scientific invites engineering students to join a 12-week Process Development Engineering Intern program in Arden Hills, MN. This hybrid role blends hands-on manufacturing work with cross-functional collaboration across Electrophysiology, Cardiac Rhythm Management, Diagnostics, Endoscopy, and Urology.

  • Pursuing Mechanical, Biomedical, or Materials Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Connect R&D to Manufacturing through robust processes, technologies, and systems.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes and test systems for high-volume production.
  • Work hands-on with manufacturing and development equipment to design, build, test, troubleshoot, and improve fixtures, tooling, and processes.
  • Apply engineering problem-solving and data analysis/statistical methods to evaluate process performance.
  • Support process development activities that may include laser processing, bonding, mechanical testing, molding, and process validation.
  • Partner with technology leaders and cross-functional teams to bring new capabilities and innovative solutions to life.
  • Ensure conformance with global process development procedures and applicable quality requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility for the integrity and content of Process Plans, including materials used in processing and the appropriate sequencing of manufacturing tasks.
  • Develop and maintain Manufacturing Instructions and support material and process implementation throughout the Product Development lifecycle.

As a Process Development Engineering Intern, you will help drive Boston Scientific's growth through the development of world-class processes, technologies, and medical devices. You will contribute to delivering innovative solutions, enabling new products and therapies through advanced process capabilities, and executing committed projects. Internship opportunities may be available across several business areas, including Electrophysiology, Cardiac Rhythm Management, Diagnostics, Endoscopy, and Urology. This role is well suited for engineering students who enjoy hands-on problem solving, equipment and fixture development, and data-driven engineering. Ideal candidates are curious, adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of projects while working both independently and collaboratively across teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Connect Research & Development to Manufacturing through the development of robust processes, technologies, and systems.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes and test systems that can scale to high-volume production, reduce variation, and improve product quality.
  • Work hands-on with manufacturing and development equipment to design, build, test, troubleshoot, and improve fixtures, tooling, and processes.
  • Apply engineering problem-solving and data analysis/statistical methods to evaluate process performance and recommend engineering direction.
  • Support process development activities that may include laser processing, bonding, mechanical testing, molding, and process validation.
  • Partner with technology leaders and cross-functional teams to bring new capabilities and innovative solutions to life.
  • Ensure conformance with global process development procedures and applicable quality requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility for the integrity and content of Process Plans, including materials used in processing and the appropriate sequencing of manufacturing tasks.
  • Develop and maintain Manufacturing Instructions and support material and process implementation throughout the Product Development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must graduate between Fall 2027 - Spring 2029
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or graduate level degree majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Material Science/Engineering
  • Must be able to commit to a full 12 week internship assignment during one of the following timeframes:
    • May 17th, 2027 - August 6th, 2027, OR
    • May 24th, 2027 - August 13th, 2027
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Arden Hills, MN Boston Scientific Corporate location

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD tools and an interest in equipment and fixture design.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma, process validation, materials science, controls/electrical systems, 3D printing, micro-interconnects, or microelectronics is a plus.
  • Interest in emerging technologies and AI-enabled engineering tools is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
