The Senior R&D Engineer will play a key role in the product development of single use devices designed for complex percutaneous coronary interventional procedures. This position offers the opportunity to influence the development of product portfolio decisions and cadence.

In this role, you will develop new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. The engineer will work collaboratively as part of a cross‑functional development team to plan, direct, and execute major segments of complex projects ensuring successful outcomes from concept through commercialization.

Work Mode

This role follows an onsite work model, requiring employees to be in our Arbor Lakes, MN office at least four days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes, or equipment.
  • Successfully completes complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation.
  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
  • Designs and prepares complex reports to communicate results to technical community.
  • Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments.
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
  • Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment.
  • Interfaces with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Responsible for engineering documentation.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry‑level engineers.
  • Demonstrates PDP/TPD system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
  • B.S. degree with 5+ years of experience, M.S. degree with 3+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 1+ year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in design of complex medical devices, with commercialization experience in phase‑gate processes.
  • Key leadership traits expected for this role include being an independent thinker, ability to guide/lead other team members, self-starter, strong communication skills, and ability to take calculated risks.
  • Preferred technical capabilities: strong mechanical experience with design and development of single use devices in the vascular space, particularly vascular catheter development. Demonstrated ability to think out‑of‑the‑box, navigate ambiguity, collaborate within and across teams within a global organization, and ability to mentor/guide more junior engineers or technicians.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills, including proficiency in tools such as Minitab
  • Working knowledge of DMAIC methodology

Maximum Salary: $156,900

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non‑exempt (hourly), non‑sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
