Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Process Development Chemical Engineer to join a forward-thinking team in Welkom. The role focuses on researching, designing, and piloting new chemical processes and optimizing existing ones, bridging laboratory discovery to industrial application.

The position involves a hybrid work model balancing lab and pilot plant work with remote analysis and reporting, contributing to sustainable chemical solutions and advancing technological capabilities.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience in process development, scale-up and pilot plant operations.
• Strong theoretical knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, separation processes and process control.
• Proficiency in experimental design (DoE) and statistical analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving, creativity and analytical abilities.
• Strong communication and documentation skills with technical writing experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and optimization of new chemical processes from bench to pilot scale.
• Conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results for process design decisions.
• Design and execute pilot plant trials with robust data collection and analysis.
• Collaborate with R&D scientists and production engineers for scale-up and technology transfer.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies and equipment for process enhancement.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for process development projects.
