Company Overview

Gwynedd Manufacturing is a rapidly growing defense contractor and state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing facility located in North Wales, PA. We are proud to serve the U.S. Department of Defense and federal law enforcement agencies with high‑quality firearms and accessories. As an innovative and forward‑thinking organization, we are committed to continuous technological advancement and process improvement.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Process Design Engineer with strong 3D modeling expertise and deep knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T to support manufacturing, product improvements, and process troubleshooting. This is a hands‑on, floor‑engaged role focused on creating accurate models, drawings, and in‑process documentation to ensure manufacturability and repeatable quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain 3D models, detailed drawings, and top‑level assemblies using Inventor (NX a plus).
  • Apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T and perform tolerance stack‑ups for parts, assemblies, and in‑process operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues communicated by manufacturing or assembly personnel—even when information is incomplete (e.g., “it doesn’t work” or “something seems off”).
  • Work closely with machinists, assemblers, quality inspectors, and engineers to ensure drawings match real‑world manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain in‑process drawing packages aligned with manufacturing sequences.
  • Design manufacturing fixtures, inspection fixtures, and other tooling as needed.
  • Update or revise drawings and models iteratively to reflect functional limits and solve production issues.
  • Collaborate closely with machinists, assemblers, inspectors, and engineers; communicate technical concepts clearly and respectfully.
  • Ensure models and drawings reflect manufacturing‑friendly and CAM‑friendly design practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years mechanical or process design experience.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor; NX experience is beneficial.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and fixture/tooling design.
  • Working knowledge of materials, machining, and metal finishes.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multi‑project management skills.
  • Ability to navigate the manufacturing floor (stairs, platforms, equipment).
  • Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, direct, and collaborative environment.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position is based in a manufacturing environment and may require the following over extended periods of time up to a full 8‑hour work shift (excluding lunch and breaks): stand, walk, sit, squat or bend, kneel and rise, lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to — and occasionally exceeding — 50 pounds, view a computer or other digital screen, work on a computer, workstation or comparable system, and make accurate entries in such systems. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills are required for detailed assembly and precision work. Work may take place in areas with varying temperatures or no climate control, varying noise levels, and production equipment in motion. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated areas at all times as required by company policy. Reasonable accommodations may be available to enable individuals with disabilities but are always subject to safety concerns for the employee and all team members. Employer may require a physical assessment of the candidate’s ability to perform these tasks as a condition of an offer letter. Any assessment will be performed by a third party vendor and will be reported on a pass/fail basis with no other medical information conveyed to employer.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
