Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Control Engineer for a major gold mining operation in the Free State region. The role focuses on optimizing gold extraction and refining through advanced control systems and automation, enhancing efficiency, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate holds a chemical or metallurgical engineering degree with 5+ years in process control within mining, and hands-on experience with DeltaV, S7, and Rockwell PLCs. Travel to Welkom sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.
5+ years in process control, mining preferred.
Experience with DCS/PLC systems (Emerson DeltaV, Siemens S7, Rockwell).
Knowledge of metallurgical processes and SPC.
Experience with SCADA and data historians.
Willingness to travel to site locations around Welkom.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and tune APC strategies for gold extraction circuits.
Develop and maintain control system software, including PLC and DCS programming.
Monitor plant performance using real-time data and optimize throughput and recovery rates.
Troubleshoot control system issues to minimize downtime and ensure process stability.
Collaborate with plant operators, metallurgists, and maintenance teams to identify improvements.
Prepare technical documentation, including control narratives, P&IDs, and operating manuals.
Provide training and technical support to plant personnel on control system operations.
