Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Engineer to remotely support and optimize mining operations, focusing on chemical and physical processes from Welkom, Free State. The role requires strong data interpretation, cross-site collaboration, and delivering actionable optimization strategies.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in mineral processing or extractive metallurgy, with proficiency in Aspen Plus or HYSYS and remote-work communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering, with a strong focus on mining, mineral processing, or extractive metallurgy.
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex process analysis and optimization.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
• Excellent remote communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with process control systems and automation is beneficial.
• Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and regulatory compliance in mining.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and technical drawings.
• Must be eligible to work remotely and provide support to operations in the Welkom, Free State region.
• Strong project management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize existing process designs to improve efficiency, yield, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop new process technologies and methodologies for mineral extraction and refinement.
• Conduct feasibility studies and pilot plant trials for process improvements and new developments.
• Troubleshoot operational issues remotely, providing expert technical support to on-site teams.
• Utilize process simulation software to model and predict process behavior.
• Ensure processes comply with environmental regulations and safety standards.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, process documentation, and operational guidelines.
• Collaborate with geologists, metallurgists, and operational staff to achieve project goals.
• Monitor process performance data and recommend adjustments for optimization.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements and best practices in process engineering for the mining sector.
