Placements24 is seeking a Process Control Engineer for a major gold mining operation in the Free State region. The role focuses on optimizing gold extraction and refining through advanced control systems and automation, enhancing efficiency, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate holds a chemical or metallurgical engineering degree with 5+ years in process control within mining, and hands-on experience with DeltaV, S7, and Rockwell PLCs. Travel to Welkom sites is expected as needed.

A significant gold mining operation in Welkom, Free State , is seeking a dedicated Process Control Engineer to optimize its gold extraction and refining processes. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control strategies, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical or metallurgical engineering with specialized knowledge in process automation and control systems within the mining industry. This is a vital position contributing to the sustainable and profitable operation of one of the region's key gold producers in the Free State province.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and tune advanced process control (APC) strategies for gold extraction circuits.
• Develop and maintain control system software, including PLC and DCS programming.
• Monitor plant performance using real-time data and implement adjustments to optimize throughput and recovery rates.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime and ensure process stability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process control engineering, preferably within the mining or minerals processing industry.
• Proven experience with DCS and PLC systems (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Siemens S7, Rockwell).
• Strong understanding of metallurgical processes, particularly gold extraction and refining.
• Knowledge of advanced control techniques, statistical process control (SPC), and simulation software.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
• Experience with SCADA systems and data historians.
• Familiarity with instrumentation and field devices.
• Must be willing to travel to site locations in and around Welkom as needed.
