Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation requires a Process Control Engineer at the Round Mountain Gold Mine to develop, maintain, and optimize control strategies that improve stability, throughput, and recovery. This role emphasizes collaboration with operations, metallurgy, and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering in related discipline.
• 5-8 years in process control/automation in mineral processing/mining.
• Familiarity with CMMS.
• Hands-on experience with mining DCS/PLC (Honeywell/ABB/Emerson/Rockwell).
• Strong understanding of mineral processing unit operations.
• Control loop tuning, alarm management, troubleshooting.
• Process data analysis and visualization tools (Wonderware/PI System).
• Instrumentation fundamentals (flow, level, pressure, density, analytical).
• APC concepts preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and optimize control strategies for crushing, grinding, classification, leaching, adsorption, detoxification, and related systems.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and support plant control systems (DCS/PLC/HMI) for high availability.
• Develop and tune regulatory, advanced, and model-based control loops to improve stability and metallurgical performance.
• Lead control system upgrades, alarm management, and interface improvements per site processes.
• Partner with Operations and Metallurgy to improve throughput, recovery, and reagent efficiency.
• Provide on-shift and off-shift technical support for control issues affecting production/safety.
• Analyze process data and trends to identify improvement opportunities and risk mitigation.
• Support instrumentation, control hardware, and network reliability; lifecycle management of automation assets.
• Assist with root cause analysis for process upsets and failures.
• Participate in hazard analyses, MOC, and operational readiness reviews.
• Develop specs, FAT/SAT docs, and commissioning plans for automation projects.
• Contribute to cost reduction, energy efficiency, and operational excellence initiatives.
