Job summary

Ellaway Blues Consulting is seeking a Process Control Engineer to support plant automation, PLC/SCADA infrastructure, and capital projects across the full controls lifecycle.

The role involves PLC programming, SCADA/HMI development, instrumentation, industrial networking, and process optimization, working with operations, maintenance, IT, and engineering teams to deliver reliable control solutions and continuous improvements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of process controls, controls engineering, automation, or related industry experience.
• Hands-on experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLC platforms.
• Experience programming, modifying, or troubleshooting PLC logic.
• Experience working with SCADA/HMI systems.
• Experience troubleshooting controls, instrumentation, or automated process equipment.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain, and improve PLC/SCADA and automation systems.
• Program, modify, and troubleshoot Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC systems.
• Develop and modify HMI/SCADA graphics using Ignition and/or GE iFix.
• Troubleshoot controls and process equipment including instrumentation, actuated valves, motors, remote I/O, networks.
• Support Ethernet-based industrial networks and communications infrastructure.
• Partner with process engineering and operations to develop and improve control schemes and strategies.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives, instrumentation wiring diagrams, and other engineering documentation.
• Participate in controls-related capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning, startups, and plant expansions.
• Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and engineering partners.
• Follow established engineering, project management, safety, and document control standards.

Job description

A growing advanced manufacturing organization is seeking a Process Control Engineer to support plant automation, PLC/SCADA infrastructure, process improvement initiatives, and capital projects.

This is a hands-on engineering position offering exposure across the full controls lifecycle, including PLC programming, SCADA/HMI development, instrumentation, industrial networking, troubleshooting, control strategy development, capital projects, commissioning, and process optimization. The position will work closely with operations, maintenance, process engineering, utilities, IT, EHS, management, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain, and improve plant PLC/SCADA and automation systems.
• Program, modify, and troubleshoot Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC systems using RSLogix/Studio 5000.
• Work with ladder logic, function block, and structured text programming.
• Develop and modify HMI/SCADA graphics using Ignition and/or GE iFix.
• Troubleshoot controls and process equipment including instrumentation, actuated valves, motors, remote I/O, communications equipment, network switches, SCADA servers, and operator workstations.
• Support Ethernet-based industrial networks and communications infrastructure.
• Partner with process engineering and operations to develop and improve control schemes and strategies.
• Review and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives, instrumentation wiring diagrams, and other engineering documentation.
• Participate in controls-related capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning, startups, and plant expansions.
• Depending on experience, provide technical oversight for controls aspects of new construction and capital projects.
• Support PI data historian tag configuration, graphical displays, and reporting.
• Identify production bottlenecks, reliability issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Support optimization and tuning of closed-loop control systems.
• Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and engineering partners as needed.
• Follow established engineering, project management, safety, and document control standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
• 3+ years of process controls, controls engineering, automation, or related industrial experience.
• Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC platforms.
• Experience programming, modifying, or troubleshooting PLC logic.
• Experience working with SCADA/HMI systems.
• Experience troubleshooting controls, instrumentation, or automated process equipment.
• Previous experience within a manufacturing, chemical, mining, petroleum, power generation, metals, or other industrial/process environment.
