Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a Process/Automation Engineer for the machine shop in Newton, NJ. You will drive COGS reduction and lead digital transformation to boost productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include identifying automation opportunities, improving inspection methods, supporting design-for-manufacturability, and training shop staff. Requires a BS in ME and 5+ years in automation/manufacturing.

Qualifications

BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
5+ years of automation/manufacturing process experience.
Proficiency in SolidWorks and CNC programming.

Responsibilities

Identify COGS reduction opportunities in the machine shop.
Implement COGS reduction initiatives.
Identify automation and digital transformation opportunities in the machine shop.
Implement automation and digital transformation initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve in-process inspection and metrology methods.
Document and conduct shop-floor tests for new manufacturing processes.
Train production employees on standard operating procedures.
Update drawings to improve manufacturability.
Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability of new products.
Provide technical support for quality or manufacturing issues.
